Burghley House

Burghley House

Burghley is one of the largest and grandest houses of the first Elizabethan Age, designed and built by William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I, between 1555 and 1587. The main part of the house has 35 major rooms, with 80 lesser rooms. As well as looking round the beautiful house, you can also visit the Orangery Restaurant, Gift Shop and Garden of Surprises. The historic parkland was designed by Capability Brown and is still home to a herd of fallow deer.

Just 2 miles from the cottage is a pay-to-play golf course with stunning views of Rutland Water. Players have a choice of nine par 3 holes on the Hambleton course or a challenging NEW 18 hole Championship Normanton course. Clubs are available for hire as are buggies, and the Course boasts it's own driving range and fully licensed bar and function facility.

Something for a rainy day. This is a ceramics studio where you can paint a piece of pottery and create your own masterpiece. There is also a café and so you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a bite to eat whilst you paint. Great for kids and adults alike. Make sure you visit at the beginning of your stay as it often takes a few days to fire your finished piece.
