Local Area The village of Manton is a small friendly village and is on the southern shore of Rutland Water. There is a Public House, the Horse and Jockey, which serves food at lunchtime and in the evening.

Rutland is England's smallest county being just 16 x 16 miles but it certainly lives up to its motto "Multum in Parvo" - much in little!

Within Rutland there are the 2 picturesque, stone built market towns of Oakham and Uppingham - both only 3 miles away and well known for their public schools. They both have supermarkets as well as stylish boutiques, gift and antique shops, cosy cafes and pubs and excellent restaurants. Both towns have a weekly market. There is also a train station in Oakham with links to Peterborough, Melton Mowbray, Leicester, Birmingham and Stanstead Airport.

Across the border in Lincolnshire and only 20 minutes drive away is the beautiful Georgian stone town of Stamford with many shops, pubs and restaurants as well as lovely architecture. It is also home to the impressive Burghley House, where the Burghley Horse Trials are held every September. It has been used for many costume dramas and films and the House and Gardens are open to the public.

The cities of Leicester and Peterborough are both only a 30-40 minute drive away with Nottingham being around one hour.

Rutland Water is right on our doorstep and the cycle/walking path around its perimeter passes through Manton. It is a 3,100-acre site that has 4 landscaped parks around its shores where you can enjoy a walk, play and picnic or buy an ice cream or bite to eat from one of the cafes.

Rutland Water has so much to offer - cycling, sailing, fishing, climbing, bird watching etc. So please take time to look at the 'Things to do' page where information on all of these and much more are listed, along with their websites.
